Medicines for Muheza Update

Medicines for Muheza is a small, UK registered charity which has helped transform the work at St. Augustine's Hospital in Muheza, Tanzania over the last 30 years. Our community in Chieveley has supported it for over 20 years and you can find out more on the Medicines for Muheza page here on MyChieveley.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this charity either again or for the first time this fundraising year. Since our Annual Service for Muheza in October, we have raised £4328.75 towards our target of £5500. A wonderful start!

Edgar, whose salary we are able to pay, has sent this update from the Kids Club:

 Muheza Waziri

Waziri pictured above is 15 years old. He had nasty skin infections and was coughing and losing weight. His father, who was separated from his mother, took him to the hospital where he was found to be HIV positive and to have TB. The father abandoned him and the mother refused to believe her child was HIV positive.

Luckily the nextdoor neighbour was a nurse in the hospice, Sister Asifiwe. She spoke to the child and arranged for him to get his treatment at her house every morning and evening on the way to and from school. Much later when mother became ill she was taken to hospital and tested and found to also have HIV. They are now both much improved and taking medication regularly.

In Wariri’s own words “I am very grateful to Uncle Edgar and Aunt Asifiwe for saving me, without them I would have been dead. I am now healthy, attending Kids Club at Hospice and I am happy with other children living with HIV like me. I feel like I don’t have any problem. May God bless all who support the Hospice which has been very helpful to Children from poor and disadvantaged families like me. Hospice also is buying School uniform and other school materials for me since my father refused me and my mother cannot afford it.”

I think you will agree, stories like this make it all worthwhile.

A big thank you to all of you, for your support. If you have not yet supported and would like to do so, you are not too late! Please email s.malty@btinternet.com for more details.
