Spring Litterpick - a joint effort

Our village Scout Group recently joined forces with a fantastic team of local adults for our Spring litterpick.

While the adults tackled the busier approach roads to our village, the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts (aged 6 to 14) gathered litter throughout our quieter village footpaths, verges and hedgerows.

A bewildering range and scale of rubbish was collected…… Sadly, litter still builds up around the Recreation Ground and near various parking places, often gathering in the hedgerows. Despite clearing the grass verges of the A34 slip roads, litter is collecting there again.

As well as the usual tins, packets, bottles, balls, lighters etc., each year certain items surprise and distress us - as you can see in the pictures, this time we found many abandoned paint tins, car parts and even a hazardous makeshift ladder (numerous long screws were sticking out, a clear danger to wildlife and people).

Thank you to all the adults and children involved in the litterpick. You really are making a big difference and hopefully much less will be found in future years.
