A message from former Red Lion landlord Robin and Susie

Dear Villagers,

A big thank you to everyone who has used The Red Lion over the past 17 years, whether it be once or hundreds of times. We hope it is supported just as well in the future. Our village hall, recreation ground, church and pub are all vital to keep our community so vibrant.

Thanks also to all the staff over the years and to the parents who have allowed their kids to have their first job at The Red Lion. The most recent recruit, a 14 year old, got the job because his CV letter said 'I can work with the most annoying of customers'.

We had a great leaving party on the 26th March with about 300 people inside and outside the pub. I would like to thank the band and DJ's. During the night we held a charity auction of memorabilia which with some donations  raised £1300 for Unicef in Ukraine. Thanks go to Nick Powell for being a great auctioneer and to The Bees, The Corrs, The Couzens, The Nicholls/Teagues and Johnny from Black Horse (Clapton in Gordano) for their winning bids. It was a great fun half hour.

During the last week we received a shed load of cards, all of which were five star reviews, (unlike a lot of our trip advisor reviews). The cricket  club also gave us a substantial gift voucher which means we can turn our day trip to Norfolk into an overnight stay. Some also gave presents....thank you to all.

We are so glad we came to the village. We've had some wonderful times, made some great friendships and been at some great parties. Here's to Chieveley.

See you down the pub,

Robin and Susie
