Chieveley Cricket Club Launches 10 x 10 Fund Raising Campaign to Secure Its Next Decade

September 24, 2019:  Chieveley Cricket Club (CCC) today announces the 10 x 10 campaign, a new fundraising drive to raise £10,000 to secure the next decade of the community club.

Said Chair Mark Hutchison, who was instrumental in helping the historic club reform in 2010: “As we prepare to celebrate our tenth anniversary, we are also looking forward to the next ten years.  Investing in our future is critical to ensure we can continue to deliver a full programme of junior coaching for boys & girls, plus support the adult team who entered the Fourth Division of the Serious Cricket Downs League for the first time this season and won.”

As the popularity of cricket increases with the World Cup and Ashes Test series taking place in England in 2019, there is a growing demand locally from children interested to learn.

Over 70 youngsters from Chieveley and surrounding villages such as Beedon, Hermitage, Curridge, Cold Ash and Compton have been joining the youth training sessions each Saturday (10am-11.30am) and Monday (6pm-7pm), with numbers expected to increase next season.

“We need to ensure we have a robust fundraising program in place today to ensure we can support Chieveley Cricket Club in the future. The 10 x 10 fundraising campaign will enable us to invest in a much needed new wicket, amongst other things,” Mark added.

The first 10 x 10 fundraising event takes place on Friday October 18 as the club will be hosting an exclusive screening of The Edge in Chieveley Village Hall. The movie is a compelling, funny and emotional insight into the England team’s rise to the top of Test match cricket. There will be a licenced bar, cash & card accepted, and hot supper.  Tickets are £15 and must be bought in advance. They are available now from The Red Lion, Village Shop and online at  The bar opens at 6.30pm and the screening starts at 8pm.

Adult matches are played most Sundays during the season and youth matches take place on Saturdays and Mondays, usually coinciding with the training sessions. Adult nets are run on Thursdays from 7pm-8.30pm.  For more information and details on how to join the club please visit the cricket club section.
