Hello all
This Sunday afternoon we would love you to join us in Chieveley Churchyard for our first nature count event - welcome to Citizen Science!
We have a large and pretty churchyard space with a lot of different wild plants and insects - and even birds and animals. Some of the area is allowed to grow freely and we have left some other parts unmown for No-Mow May. As part of the church community’s project and commitment to environmental sustainability, for the first time we are going to try and find out what plant and wildlife is there, and we would love you to join us to help.
We are “simply" going to try and record the different plants, flowers, trees, insects, wildlife in the space, on that day!
We will provide data collection sheets, lots of books and resources for exploring what we find and suggestions for apps that you can use on your phone. Data recording can also be done on an app on your phone if that is what you prefer and we will provide details of that. Talk to each other, help each other out, share anything you know! The data will ultimately be submitted as part of a national review of burial ground biodiversity.
The church will be open for information resources, a little sit down, loos and some light refreshments during the afternoon.
All ages are very welcome! If you bring children with you - which we would LOVE! - may we please politely ask you to keep an eye on them in the churchyard and in particular ensure that they don't climb on the gravestones, for their own and the gravestones’ safety? Do also be careful making your way around the churchyard. Thank you.
Sunday 7th June 2-5 pm, St Mary’s Churchyard, Chieveley. See you there!
