The Downland Practice has issued the following news update:

Paramedic

The Downland Practice have been successful in recruiting a Paramedic to deal with patients who have on the day concerns. This will free up GP time so that the GPs can see more routine patients with chronic illnesses. We anticipate that the Paramedic will be in post for the end of January 2022, but they are likely to be undertaking the odd day here and there between now and the end of January. The Paramedic is very experienced and will be in a good position to assess the needs of patients who need to be seen on the day.

'Usual GP' Change

The Downland Practice is experiencing change with the current GP team. Dr. Dhesi has left and Dr. Haider is leaving mid December 2021. Patients who are on the list of Dr. Dhesi and Dr. Haider will be moved across to other GPs until the new GPs are in post early next year.  We will try where possible to notify changes to patients via text message. We are keeping a track of patients who move so that we can prepare the GP patient list for the new GPs coming in.  In the mean time we have some good Locum GPs who will be seeing all patients across the practice. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Reception Team

The reception team have worked very hard during this pandemic, ensuring that patients needs are dealt with when they contact the surgery. For the whole of the pandemic we have not had a full reception team available, despite many recruitment drives we are still short of reception staff.  Whist we are close to getting the reception team back to full strength, the practice is undertaking a review of the whole of the reception process.  This review will take a number of months to fully complete and implement the changes. We have a cross-member practice team that includes a member of the Patient Participation Group. As you already know the coming winter will place extra pressure on the Downland Practice, we are aware that the wait for a phone call to be answered at the surgery is currently higher than normal. We will update the website on a regular basis as advised by the review team.

Pharmacy

Sanjay Shah is currently on unplanned absence from his role as the Downland pharmacist. it is unclear on how long this absence will last. We have our clinical pharmacists filling in some shifts and we are currently sourcing locum pharmacist cover so that we can manage the Downland Pharmacy service to our patients. There may be some disruption for patients and longer waits for the shop service whilst we have locum pharmacists in post.  The Downland Pharmacy apologises in advance for any inconvenience this may cause to patients using this service.
