Floral arrangement

About us

Chieveley Floral Group has been part of village life for more than 25 years. We continue to grow, with a wide membership from Chieveley and surrounding villages. We meet monthly (except in August) in Chieveley Village Hall, usually to watch a trained demonstrator create arrangements of beautiful plant material on a variety of themes.

We always welcome visitors to these demonstrations, and emphasise that you do not have to be ‘an arranger' to belong to the Floral Group. Many of our members come just for the pleasure of watching someone else demonstrate her (and sometimes his) flower-arranging skills. However, for those who would like to learn more, we organise classes, workshops, visits to shows and flower festivals.

Our members also arrange church, wedding and party flowers and exhibit at flower shows and competitions.

If you would like to know more, please do get in touch or just turn up at one of our meetings.

Look out for posters around the village advertising regular and special events, or see our monthly spot in Chieveley and Hermitage parish magazines. Or, of course - watch this space!

We are affiliated to NAFAS (The National Association of Flower Arranging Societies) and to the Berks Bucks and Oxon area.

Floral arrangementMeetings

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month (except August) at 7.30pm in Chieveley Village Hall.  Doors open at 7.0 p.m. for refreshments, raffle tickets and an opportunity to buy flower-arranging accessories from our sales table.

Our members

We have members of all ages from the Downlands villages and from as far afield as Wallingford, Goring and Newbury.

Will I be expected to do anything?

Not if you don't want to. Just turn up and watch a trained demonstrator arrange 5 or 6 fresh flower and foliage exhibits which are then raffled after the demonstration.

  • We arrange a variety of activities for members: 
  • * Classes for beginners
  • * Day schools for intermediate arrangers
  • * Workshops for those eager to learn new skills
  • * Arranging church flowers for weddings, Whitsun, Easter and Christmas
  • * Outings to floral festivals

We have been closely involved with Church Flower Festivals and arranging flowers for St Mary's Church, Chieveley at Whitsun and Christmas.  We also accept commissions for wedding flower designs (download our wedding brochure).

Each year in June we have a stall at the annual Chieveley Village Fête.

Members are encouraged to enter the Flower Arranging Classes at Chieveley Gardening Club shows (three a year).

Floral arrangementCost

Membership for 2010/11 is £30 which includes free entry to all demonstrations. Non-members are most welcome at demonstrations for an entry fee of £5.
