Chieveley Flower Club is presently suspended due to Coronavirus restrictions
When we cancelled our March and April meetings it seemed rather extreme, but as time has gone on, it was of course the right course of action. We have now suspended all our meetings until October 2020 when we hope that we will be able to see a way forward.
Our Annual General Meeting should have been held in June but is now planned as a virtual meeting to be held on Tuesday 21 July 2020 at 2.15pm on Zoom. This is a crucial meeting for the club, as there are a number of long-standing committee members who are stepping down this year. If you are interested in attending our AGM please contact Meg Hooper at email@example.com and I will have you added to those who can attend. Anyone is welcome to attend our AGM, but only members of the Club may vote.
We hope to hold demonstrations in October, November and December, but these will be for members only. This is not because we do not want to welcome visitors, but so that we can ensure a safe meeting space for everyone.
Chieveley Flower Club has been part of village life for more than 35 years. We have a membership from across the Downland villages; Chieveley, Hermitage, Cold Ash and Bradfield to name a few, as well as Thatcham and Newbury. We meet monthly (except in August) in Chieveley Village Hall, usually to watch a trained demonstrator create arrangements of beautiful plant material on a variety of themes.
We always welcome visitors to these demonstrations and you do not have to be ‘an arranger' to the come to Flower Club. Many of our members come just for the pleasure of watching someone else demonstrate their flower-arranging skills. However, for those who would like to learn more, we organise occasional workshops.
Our members also arrange church, wedding and party flowers and exhibit at flower shows and competitions. We also arrange the fresh flowers in the Red Lion Pub each week.
If you would like to know more, please do get in touch or just turn up at one of our meetings. Look out for posters around the village advertising regular and special events, or see our monthly spot in Chieveley and Hermitage parish magazines. Or, of course - watch this space!
We are affiliated to NAFAS (The National Association of Flower Arranging Societies) and to the Berks Bucks and Oxon area.
We meet on the third Tuesday of each month (except August) at 7.30pm in Chieveley Village Hall. Doors open at 7pm for refreshments, raffle tickets and an opportunity to buy flower-arranging accessories from our sales table. December meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday and often not in Chieveley, so do check the side bar for details.
We have members of all ages from the Downlands villages and from as far afield as Wallingford, Goring and Newbury.
Will I be expected to do anything?
Not if you don't want to. Just turn up and watch a trained demonstrator arrange 5 or 6 fresh flower and foliage exhibits which are then raffled after the demonstration.
We arrange a variety of activities for members:
- Demonstrations on various topics by trained and accredited presenters.
- Workshops for those eager to learn new skills
- Arranging church flowers for weddings.
